Gödöllő Climate Club

January 2010

The carbon footprint of the club:

We tasted it in the January Club: the sour cherry cake recipe

Ingredients:

100 g butter (or margarine)

2 eggs

250 g sugar

100 g ground walnut

1 baking powder

300 g flour

3 dl milk

cc. 300 g sour cherries or cherries without pips

Mix the eggs with the sugar and then add the melted butter. Gradually add the baking powder that has already been mixed with the flour and milk. Finally add the ground walnut. Then pour it into a baking tin that is buttered and has a little flour sprinkled around. Sprinkle the fruit on top and put it into the pre-heated oven at 180 degrees and bake it for about 30 minutes. With a needle test if it is well-baked.

Climate Club programme

14 January 2010

Introduction: welcome, answering the questions brought up at the previous meeting (insulation, burning plastic and rubber waste at home, etc.)

Story of Stuff CD …

I. Eco-footprint, carbon footprint presentation by GD

Hungary and Indonesia…

II.What did you measure at home? Collecting meter readings

Questions, problems, challenges…

Distributing carbon calculator data sheets – please bring them to each club meeting!

III. Distributing other materials:

- Club publication: Guidelines for saving energy at home

-

Any questions??

IV. Conduct a lifestyle audit at home! (+ any eco-footprint results???)

Distributing audit sheets… (see household energy audit)

Why is it useful to do audits?

Value of home/house – energy certificate

First try to estimate it in the club – then go home and check!

V. Similar club: Fownhope, UK

Who are they and what do they do?

350 ppm: what is it and why is it important?

Brainstorming in groups: --- if there is any time left ---

What kind of an event would you like to organize in Gödöllő to help raise awareness about climate change issues?

VI. Closing

· Next club: 16 February, guest speaker: Richard Halmay (GreenDependent), alternative energy engineer

· Things to do for the next club

o Data collection (read your meters J),

o Do the household energy audit!!

· Before and after the club

o Opportunity to measure your ECO-FOOTPRINT

The setting up of the Gödöllő Climate Club was supported by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission in the framework of the “Changing Behaviour” programme.
